Gucci really knows how to make a first impression, and what better way to do that than nabbing the cover of a magazine? How about 81 of them?
It looks like Gucci’s overachieving has awarded them the top spot in the seasonal cover war with more covers than any other brand from the fall 2012 collections. Gucci was also last fall’s cover war winner, so the brand seems pretty comfortable on top.
Kristen Stewart, Candice Swanepoel, Joan Smalls, Salma Hayek, and Marion Cotillard are just a few of the famous faces to grace a cover wearing frocks from Gucci’s gothic and romantic fall collection.
Dolce & Gabbana was hot on Gucci’s heels in second place with 77 covers, while Christian Dior made third with 51.
It’s strange to think of power luxury brand Christian Dior as a newcomer to the cover war, but that seems to be the case. For as long as we have been keeping track, Dior has barely registered a blip on the cover war front until now. We were sure that if the brand was going to make a cover splash, it would be with new head designer Raf Simons’ first ready-to-wear collection for spring 2013, but Bill Gaytten’s last fall collection proved us wrong, and was very popular indeed. Our final tallies even have it surpassing typical cover stars Prada and Louis Vuitton.
On that note, the latest batch of covers for the new year has all the regulars in typical fighting form, including newcomer Dior. Hedi Slimane’s vision for Saint Laurent is also getting lots of cover attention. We are excited to see them all duke it out this spring!
