French sportswear brand Lacoste celebrated its 80th anniversary at Lincoln Center during its fall 2013 collection. And the brand had much to celebrate.
One of the more clever looks was a transparent raincoat made of latex with colors peeking through. Tops with oversized rounded sleeves, diagonal zippers, and sexy leather dresses went together suprisingly well. An orange turtleneck paired seamlessly with a flowy printed dress that had a high slit. Who would’ve thought that could ever be chic? Well, it was.
And then there were the iceberg prints which sank any doubt (if there was any) that this Lacoste collection was anything less than superb. These prints appeared on dresses, flowy skirts, and billowy trousers. One of my favorite looks was a hooded coat that subtly carried the iceberg print and then bled into an excellent ombre, dip-dyed creation. Overall, the collection was sporty, clean, sophisticated—exactly what you’d think of when the words “Lacoste” and “high fashion” are put together in a sentence.
