Moncler Grenoble took over Gotham Hall to show its larger than life Fall 2013 presentation. Inside the classic building was a circular black tent that had the vibe of a fancy, French, après-ski rave.
Risers up to 40 feet high supported 370 models wearing Moncler’s all-green Fall 2013 collection. The ceiling of the tent was mirrored to give the illusion of infinite Moncler ski warriors. Everything was dark, save for little bursts of light that flashed over the models with the beat of the blasting music. The whole experience was a lot to take in, but very cool once you got used to the strobe light and immense crowd. In the press release I learned that the risers represented the mountains and the all-green clothing, the trees. Bringing a little bit of the Alps to New York was Moncler’s motive.
To be honest, it was hard to get an extended glimpse of the clothes. From what I saw, belted parkas with skinny pants was the popular women’s silhouette; men had on anoraks with loose snowboarding-style pants. The press release has notes of houndstooth on men and braided fleece on women, though you would have needed your opera glasses to see that during the show.
