Trendspotting: Hitchcockian

The words "timeless" and "elegant" were being thrown around a lot in Milan, especially the first few days of the collections. And we admit that when we think of Milan, home of Versace and Roberto Cavalli, those aren't the immediate words that come to mind. Until now.

The words "timeless" and "elegant" were being thrown around a lot in Milan, especially the first few days of the collections. And we admit that when we think of Milan, home of Versace and Roberto Cavalli, those aren't the immediate words that come to mind. Sexy, maybe.

But whatever the preconceptions of Milan, there is definitely an elegance in the air, with a cinematic twist. Lots of designers looked back from the '30s through the '60s for inspiration, and the results remind us of Alfred Hitchcock's leading ladies. Timeless double-breasted coats and midi-lengths skirts at Antonio Marras, Prada, and Bottega Veneta drive the point home. We wouldn't be surprised to see Alex Prager shoot some of them in a retro-inspired editorial come fall.
