She may not be a household name, but Maria Cornejo has certainly built a loyal fan base among some of fashion’s most elite players, many of whom, like Jenna Lyons, Courtney Crangi and Stefano Tonchi, were on-hand to celebrate the designer’s Fall 2013 collection on Monday. There may have been more remarkable collections to walk the runway this week–but no crowd has cheered as loud as Cornejo’s when the designer took her bow a the end of the show.
It’s easy to see why Cornejo has such a following: Season after season she delivers her signature mix of digital prints, technical fabrics, and urban-cool separates. She’s nothing if not consistent. This season there were all those things to satisfy the die-hard Zero fans, and a few other highlights for newcomers: red leather pants, and evening looks done up in a shiny basketweave material in either red or black. The latter were some of my favorite looks in the show, especially a strapless peplum top paired with loose trousers, and a long sleeve dress with a plunging neckline. It was eveningwear for the fashion set who want to standout–but not be the center of attention.
