Anna Wintour Talks to Condé Nast Editors, Vaguely Addresses New Role

At a Friday meeting of Condé Nast's top brass, one planned well before Anna Wintour's promotion had been announced, Wintour got a chance to address the very curious crew of editors-in-chief who were presumably all wondering just how much sway Wintour would have with their respective titles. So what did she say?

At a Friday meeting of Condé Nast's top brass, one planned well before Anna Wintour's promotion had been announced, Wintour got a chance to address the very curious crew of editors-in-chief who were presumably all wondering just how much sway Wintour would have with their respective titles.

So what did she say?

Apparently not much. AdWeek is reporting that Wintour said something along the lines of "I'm sure all of you are wondering what the hell I’m going to do" and then announced that she'd be embarking on a "listening tour" in the offices of Condé's other titles. According to WWD, Wintour said she would "help" editors, "even if they had not particularly raised their hands for the assist."

If we're to believe WWD's snarkier account of the meeting (filled with hilarious comparisons of Condé Nast to the Vatican, and Anna to the pope), the situation seems more like "Whatever Anna wants, Anna gets." A source told the trade, "She’ll do what she always does, which is what she wants to do.”
