Perhaps it’s a good thing that Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing is so young (he’s 27). Because with youth comes fearlessness and Rousteing certainly showed no fear when it came to his fall 2013 collection for Balmain.
This was Rousteing’s most balls-to-the-wall blinged out show yet. A blaring soundtrack of Led Zeppelin tracks didn’t hurt. Christophe Decarnin’s tattered tees seem like a distant memory now. The collection was a magpie’s dream (and a minimalist’s nightmare). The shoulders have never been bigger (or more cartoonish) and the embellishments have never been shinier. There were hints of Lacroix, sweetie.
This season saw a recurring one shouldered silhouette as well as a leather harem pant that does nothing to flatter a woman’s ass. An embellished diamond harlequin print carried over from last season.
It’s a collection that’s hard to picture on any real life woman but it’s also hard not to delight just a little in Rousteing’s latest romp.
