Blow dry bars are hot now on both coasts, but sometimes getting out of the house (not to mention spending $40) is just not an option. In any case, knowing how to do your own blowout is a lifelong skill that everyone should have. We spoke with the experts at L’Oreal Paris to find out the tools, tricks, and methods to get a perfectly smooth blowout.

First, gather the following: • A large round brush • A rat tail comb for sectioning • 4-5 sectioning clips • A blow dryer with a nozzle • A flat iron (optional)

To prep hair, start with a haircare system formulated for smoothing hair, such as L’Oréal Paris Advanced Haircare Smooth Intense Shampoo and Conditioner. It contains oleo-keratin, a smoothing ingredients that lends up to 72 hours of frizz control.

After washing your hair, gently towel dry it by rubbing the moisture out of the strands. Comb through the L'Oreal Paris' Advanced Haircare Smooth Intense Xtreme Straight Crème--which provides heat protection up to 450 degrees--for all of your hair. Section the hair in five sections.

The best kept secret about blow drying is that you need a mix of cool and hot air. Take your large round brush and place it under the first section close to the root at the nape. Repeat this process one section at a time. To make hair shine, use cold air at the end of your blowout to close and seal down the cuticle and make it look shinier.

Once your hair is completely dry, you can use a flatiron to smooth down hair to really take care of flyaways. The thicker the hair, the higher the flatiron heat. To seal in moisture, use a couple drops of a smoothing serum like L'Oreal Paris Advanced Haircare Smooth Intense Frizz Taming Serum. At night, wrap the hair around your head with a silk scarf and this will keep your hair smooth till the next morning.
