Last year beauty writer Cat Marnell told Page Six that she'd rather be "smoking angel dust with my friends and writing a book" than working at XOJane. Today, the gossip column has confirmed said book deal with publishers Simon & Schuster. Marnell confirmed the news on Twitter as well.
Billed as a memoir, the book is reportedly titled "How to Murder Your Life," which is also the name of a blog Marnell used to keep.
As anyone who's read Marnell's XOJane columns could have guessed, the book won't hold back, and, assuming she actually finishes it, will reportedly chronicle everything from her "life as a spoiled rich kid of a psychiatrist and a psychoanalyst" to her "drug-fueled rise through Condé Nast, xoJane.com and Vice magazine." Apparently Marnell's book proposal alone included tales of her four abortions, getting “choked out by a Park Avenue millionaire kid in a pine grove by the reservoir at 4 a.m,” and “sex in vacant lots in Bushwick with white rappers.”
Sounds pretty uplifting! Though Simon & Schuster wouldn't comment on how much of an advance Marnell was given, sources told the Post the book deal is worth around half a million dollars--not exactly Lena Dunham's $3 million, but not bad. It could definitely buy a lot of... er... beauty products?
Marnell also apparently landed a gig as the sex columnist and beauty editor of new magazine Galore.
