Gwyneth Paltrow graces the cover of the May issue of Harper’s Bazaar wearing that Balenciaga criss-cross crop top that’s everywhere this season. But no, she is not perfect (even though her abs are). Inside the issue she dishes about eating junk food, smoking, and her misadventures with Botox.
So the first shocking thing in the interview is that Gwyneth apparently still eats carbs, despite all the press her new gluten- and sugar-free cookbook is getting. In the latest Iron Man flick, Paltrow’s character Pepper Potts somehow ends up wearing only a bra. How did she handle it? “There are certain requirements, but luckily I have a good base because I work out often,” she told writer Sarah Bailey in Bazaar. “I just had to not eat pasta and french fries the night before shooting—which I’m terrible at doing.” (Us too, Gwynnie. Us, too.)
The 40-year-old actress was also pretty open about her forays into aesthetic procedures, like Botox. “I would be scared to go under the knife, but you know, talk to me when I’m 50.” she said. “I’ll try anything. Except I won’t do Botox again, because I looked crazy. I looked like Joan Rivers!”
So while she doesn’t go under the needle anymore, she does a laser treatment called Thermage, and uses the expected organic oils and famous Hollywood facialists. She also acknowledged that sometimes high tech trumps natural. “You know, I use organic products, but I get lasers,” she said. “It’s what makes life interesting, finding the balance between cigarettes and tofu.” (Speaking of cigarettes, she smokes one American Spirit every Saturday night as a treat.)
There’s tons more in the interview about how her son wants to dress hip hop thanks to his “Uncle Jay” (yeah, that’s Jay-Z), her new projects, and her thoughts on having another baby, which you should definitely read here.
