Perhaps it wasn't our biggest concern upon hearing that Nicolas Ghesquière would be leaving Balenciaga, but we did wonder if Kristen Stewart would also part ways with the brand. After all, she's always spoken affectionately about Ghesquière and said that the designer--specifically--was the reason she agreed to become the face of Balenciaga's Florabotanica fragrance. “I’m very lucky that I like the fragrance, because I would have done anything with [designer Nicolas Ghesquière],” she once told WWD.
Stewart also spoke of her loyalty to Ghesquière in the latest issue of 032c, which the designer covers. Via The Cut:
[When he told me he was leaving Balenciaga] I was like, ‘Dude, are you okay?’ and he was like (in a French accent), ‘Yes. Yes. I will tell you soon, but there are things happening.’ Before I left, he was like, ‘All right, I'll tell you.’ I’m so fucking proud of him because what he was about to do would rock people’s worlds. He was just like, ‘Believe for me.’ I thought it was the coolest fucking thing.
She also told him, "I will totally run away with you."
But she didn't. A rep for Balenciaga has confirmed to us that Stewart will indeed continue her role with the house.
Ghesquière's departure isn't the only reason Stewart may want to sever ties with Balenciaga. The house's new creative director, Alexander Wang, has made headlines for his relationship with model/actress Liberty Ross--you know the one whose husband was involved in that cheating scandal with Kristin Stewart that allegedly ruined her marriage? Kind of awkward, no?
