Céline pulled a Tom Ford-circa-2011 move during its 2013 resort collection presentations this week: No photos, reviews, or social media allowed!
While the brand has reportedly forbidden photographers in the past, it's always sent out pictures of the collection to accompany reviews. Not so this season, according to WWD. A member of Céline's PR team told the trade that "the plan is to keep Phoebe Philo’s most recent design activity secret for a while."
Tom Ford may have given up trying to keep his shows secret--last season he staged his first major runway outing for his eponymous line since it launched--but Céline apparently thinks it's still a strategy that could work. And we get why they want to keep things under wraps: Phoebe Philo makes some of the most covetable items on the planet (seriously--could anyone else have made furkenstocks fashionable?) and they get knocked off almost immediately.
But despite the "no review" clause, WWD published a little mini-review anyway. For Céline resort, you can expect a neutral palette and D-ring details, and a few looks that are quite intriguing to this ex-nurse: "Transparent white dresses over loud underpinnings... made a slyly subversive tweak on nurse’s garb." (If only nurses could wear Céline--it would be so good for both patient and staff morale.)
In the meantime, we'll just be patient and either wait for something to leak or be very patient and wait until Céline is ready to show us the goods.
