Cosmetics counters may just be the new frontier for luxury fashion companies.
Alber Elbaz’s collaboration with Lancome hit stores earlier this month, Michael Kors’s just-announced cosmetics line is set to debut in August, and Marc Jacobs’s first-ever makeup line with Sephora is set to launch this fall. Now, it sounds like Gucci wants in on the action–if rumors in WWD are to be believed.
According to the trade, the Italian fashion house is developing a makeup line that will hit shelves sometime in 2014. It’s said to be working with Procter & Gamble Co.’s Prestige division, with whom it’s had a licensing contract since 2006.
We already know the brand’s sexy Italiano image translates to sales in the beauty aisle–Gucci has a ton of successful perfumes–so, while this is still a rumor, it’s not hard to imagine it’s true. It’d be a smart business move.
We’ve reached out to Gucci and will update when we hear back.
