Hugo Boss has just named Jason Wu artistic director of its Boss womenswear line, effective June 15. Wu will oversee his team at the brand’s headquarters in Metzingen, Germany, as well as open a design studio in New York for the brand.
We’ve no doubt that Wu, who has already enamored the fashion industry (and Michelle Obama) with his eponymous line, will take Boss in a new, more fashion-y direction–but we’ll have to wait until Pre-Fall 2014 to see what he actually cooks up for the brand. His first designs will debut during that half-season in New York, and he’ll stage the first runway show during the New York Fall/Winter fashion week in February 2014.
“I have long been a fan of Hugo Boss’ vast tradition and lineage in extraordinary tailoring,” Wu said in a release. “With the state-of-the-art facilities that are unique to the Hugo Boss design labs, I plan to develop a strong, feminine womenswear collection that reciprocates the brand’s authority in menswear.”
“We are absolutely delighted to have an outstanding talent like Jason Wu on board,“ Hugo Boss CEO Claus Dietrich Lahrs said. “This will generate a powerful and creative statement for BOSS Womenswear and show our commitment to focus even more on the female side of the brand.”
With Wu at the helm, Boss is definitely poised to become a fashion darling–especially if Wu can snag another FLOTUS endorsement.
