If this doesn’t make notoriously scowl-y Victoria Beckham smile, we really don’t know what will. At last night’s Glamour UK Women of the Year Awards, Beckham was named woman, not of the year, but of the whole decade–precisely ten times better than anyone else’s award that night. And she used the opportunity to give a little Spice Girls throwback.
“I want to congratulate all the women,” she said in her acceptance speech, according to the Daily Mail. “I love to support women. Girl power!”
Speaking of the girl group, Beckham also thanked former Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller in her speech–but not before embarrassing her 14-year-old son Brooklyn, who attended the Awards with her.
“Thank you to Brooklyn, my date tonight and the most handsome man in the room, even though he’s avoiding his homework,” she said. “Thank you to Mum and Dad, my husband who supports my dreams, and Simon Fuller.”
Brooklyn, who was wearing Burberry, probably blushed ear to ear. Also, could another Beckham son-fronted Burberry campaign be in the works?
Glamour UK explains Beckham’s win thusly: “Record-breaking pop star, business mogul, fashion designer, mum-of-four, icon and, quite possibly, the most famous woman on the planet… We’re exhausted just writing it. The lady is a phenomenon, and a well-deserved awardee of our Woman of the Decade accolade.”
Other notable wins include Mulberry’s Emma Hill for Accessories Designer of the Year and Chloe’s Clare Waight Keller for Fashion Designer of the Year–neither accolades surprise us considering Hill has managed to churn out one It bag after another at Mulberry, and Keller has reinvigorated Chloe’s fashion cred in just a few years.
