If you needed proof of the level of obsession surrounding soap-like period drama Downton Abbey, here it is: the Downton Abbey cosmetics line–a 10-piece collection to be sold exclusively at Marks and Spencer in October, to coincide with the fourth season.
Granted, we saw it coming. In April, the producers of Downton announced they were planning to launch products. Apparel, homeware, furniture, wallpapers and stationary were mentioned, in addition to beauty products.
Also, the collection is kind of awesome. All of the packaging has an Edwardian look and features the Downton Arms. It’s actually pretty and charming, except for maybe the Downton quotes (i.e. “Stop talking & kiss me before I get cross”) printed on some of the packaging to remind you it’s a kitschy pop culture gift. Products include pretty soaps, nail polish, lip gloss, body lotion and scented candles, all of which are sure to satisfy those hoping to emulate the show’s elegant and refined leading ladies.
And it sounds like this won’t be the end of Downton Abbey‘s partnership with M&S. According to the Daily Mail, NBC Universal signed a two-year merchandising deal with the department store chain. Next up: Downton-inspired holiday party dresses?
