Just when we thought Diane von Furstenberg's life couldn't get any cooler, well, it does.
Natalie Joos got a chance to photograph the designer's Connecticut estate--which has a name btw: Cloudwalk--and mine the designer's personal vintage collection for her site Tales of Endearment, and the result is pretty epic.
For starters: von Furstenberg has a giant lipstick tree sculpture in her backyard. It is amazing and we want it. She also makes the "healthy men" who work in her barn (one of the many structures on the 100-acre property) wear matching Cloudwalk t-shirts. And she greets Joos in a nightgown and insists on serving breakfast to her and the shoot's models Elizabeth Gilpin, Laura Love and Tali Lennox.
What a boss.
Speaking of the shoot, it features Gilpin, Love and Lennox frolicking around von Furstenberg's estate wearing specially-unearthed archival items from the designer's personal vintage collection.
"I am the first person who had ever been in her archives," Joos told us. "That was a surprise in of itself. And the masses of amazing vintage was unimaginable."
Not that von Furstenberg actually wears any of it. "I don’t need to wear vintage," the designer told Joos. "I AM vintage." Well said.
"Diane has always been on top of my list. I always wanted to shoot her but I knew it would have to be something special and organic," Joos said, on how the special shoot came about. "I had never met Diane before and to just approach someone without knowing them is always tough. Then I was seated next to her PR at a charity dinner and we got to talking and one thing lead to another."
As for that lipstick tree, Joos said, "I don't know who the artist is or how it got there.... Special no?"
