The latest Met Costume Institute exhibition, Punk: Chaos to Couture, closed yesterday--and it ended up being a pretty big hit.

Despite mixed reviews--including a fairly scathing one from Suzy Menkes--the exhibition saw 442,350 visitors since opening on May 9. To put that in perspective, last year's Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations closed with a disappointing 339,838 visitors.

And even though it didn't quite stack up to the numbers of the blockbuster Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition (which had a record-breaking 661,509 visitors), the Met reports that Punk: Chaos to Couture is one of the top five Met Costume Institute exhibits of the last 25 years.

The other hits for the Met Costume Institute? 2008′s Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy with 576,000 visitors, 2001′s Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis show with 559,902 visitors, and 2005′s Chanel exhibit with 463,600 visitors.
