The Royal family's first official portraits featuring new baby Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge have been revealed, and unlike Kate and William's engagement photo, they did not tap a noted fashion photographer for the job.

Rather, Prince George's grandfather Michael Middleton snapped the charming photos--one of which also features Royal Dog Lupo and the Middletons' golden retriever Tilly.

The photos themselves are already garnering criticism, with most pointing out that the photo is backlit. CNN asks, "Are family snaps of Prince George pleasingly informal -- or just bad?" and got professional photographers to weigh in. The Daily Mail reports it is "technically poor and lacks the gravitas of previous official photographs."

The family went in a casual direction fashion-wise as well, and we think they looked great in spite of the not-so-great lighting. Middleton chose a $79 fuchsia dress from her standby maternity brand, Seraphine--which have already advertised the appearance on its website. The Duchess wore the same dress in a different print upon leaving the hospital after giving birth to Prince George.

Prince George wore a repeat outfit--the superfine wool christening shawl by H.H. Hurt and Sons he was first spotted in post-birth.

The photos are revealed alongside an exclusive on-camera interview Prince William did for CNN. The full interview is set to air September 15, but you can watch a clip below. In it, he reveals that George is a "rascal" and that Catherine stays up at night with the baby more than he does and that he's looking forward to returning to work to "get some sleep." Typical.
