The tangled lawsuit with ex-husband Chris Burch behind her, Tory Burch is ready to expand her fashion empire into a new frontier: beauty. According to WWD, the billionaire designer is set to launch her first foray into the beauty category–a fragrance, color cosmetics collection, and a bath and body line.
The expansion of the Tory Burch line has been long in coming: Burch told the trade she’d been in talks with Estee Lauder, which is producing the scent, for five years, first inking a deal with the family’s fragrance division in 2011. And according to Lauder exec Veronique Gabai-Pinsky, this is only the beginning of Tory Burch Beauty. “It’s really a launch of a new brand,” she said. “We’re starting to build a foundation of a multicategory beauty company.”
The creation of Tory Burch the fragrance was a family affair in every sense. The retro-looking gold and orange packaging was inspired by Burch’s mother’s collection of vintage perfume bottles, while the eaux de parfum itself–a “tomboy meets feminine” blend of vetiver, citrus, and florals–is a nod to her late father’s signature scent, as well as her brothers’.
As for color cosmetics, Burch is offering up a streamlined collection for women on the go, including a pink-nude lipstick (her signature shade), a rosy pink lip and cheek tint, a bronzer-blush palette, and a retractable all-purpose face brush. “I wanted to do a capsule that was quick and easy,” Burch told the trade.
The bath and body line includes a body cream, body lotion, shower gel, and candle.
The new additions to the Tory Burch brand are set to launch exclusively at select locations of Bloomingdale’s, Holt Renfrew, Tory Burch boutiques, and toryburch.com (the cosmetics can be found at the designer’s boutiques and online only) starting September 26, with further plans to expand internationally. But don’t let the limited availability fool you–it’s estimated the products will bring in $50 million in the first year alone. Which means Burch, who’s already a billionaire, may have to invest in an even heftier wallet.
