While most people bid farewell to summer with barbecues and back-to-school shopping, Hollywood's A-list flocks to Italy for the Venice Film Festival. This year's best red carpet looks seemed to stick to a very limited color palette of red (to match the carpet?), black, and white--but since all the VMA hubbub has finally died down, we have to admit it's quite refreshing to see that our favorite classy and demure stars still believe in the power of sleeves and long skirts.

Miu Miu--whose film series Women's Tales showed at the Festival for the second year--outfitted many of the attending stars, namely Carey Mulligan, Lady Mary Michelle Dockery, and Frieda Pinto. So maybe this explains the similarities in color? Another standout was Sarah Gadon, who matched dark lips to her dress with a stunning result.
