LaQuan Smith has already won a devoted celebrity following by creating the sort of jaw-dropping red-carpet numbers that get the Twitter-sphere buzzing. Upping his own ante this season, we found the designer broadening his reach with a new menswear range and foray into oh-so-on-trend active influences.

They were both rendered in the signature Smith lexicon of sex-as-a-weapon chic; these are by no means togs for the timid as evidenced by the season's key dresses. They feature belted, plunging back cut-outs that were equally as "space the final frontier" as they were--by way of Versace and Alaia--S&M.

The subtle homages to these design greats were present, but so were Smith's own youthful inspirations. The track-suit concepts that featured so prominently in both the men's and women's ranges evidenced that Smith, though fond of a nod to '80s/'90s power dressing, is about the here and now.

Activewear influences remain central in the fashion dialogue for the spring 2014 season, and Smith's iridescent racing stripe treatments move them to a decidedly slick place that was thankfully far more "red carpet" that recumbent bike.

This is no coincidence, as "red carpet" dressing factors prominently in the collection's assortment. Young, urban/pop starlets turn to Smith's body con numbers in order to set a step-and-repeat ablaze, and this season he offered up new head-turners that won't disappoint.

The collection also featured sweeter jacquard day story that spoke to the notion that having garnered seasons' worth of buzz, Smith is ready to build a long-lasting business.
