Mickey Drexler, retail guru and CEO of J.Crew, has officially joined affordable eyewear brand Warby Parker’s board, according to Fortune.
The move is not exactly unexpected–Drexler has had an informal mentor-type relationship with the company’s co-CEOs, Neil Blumenthal and Dave Gilboa and he invested in the brand during their last funding round in February. But it’s significant nonetheless: Having someone like Drexler on the board is not only a huge asset, in terms of the wisdom and expertise he’ll bring to the table, but also an important seal of approval–one that will do wonders for inspiring investors and raising more capital.
If you didn’t already expect big things from Warby Parker, then, well, it’s time to start. With Drexler on its side, it seems this startup is destined for retail greatness.
But Drexler’s new role at Warby Parker isn’t the only interesting tidbit to be gleaned from Fortune’s story. According to the mag, Drexler’s devotion to spin class has earned him the nickname ‘Godfather of SoulCycle.’
