Russell Westbrook on His Fashion Aspirations, Getting Chummy with Anna Wintour

"Who is that guy sitting next to Anna Wintour?" This was perhaps the most overheard question at the Rag & bone show yesterday. He was tall, handsome, muscular, so clearly an athlete... right? I think? Still, the fashion crew was clueless. Luckily my brother came to the rescue, informing me, after I sent him a photo text, that Wintour's newest seatmate was none other than NBA star Russell Westbrook, "arguably one of the best point guards in the entire league." We caught up with him after the show to chat about his fashion aspirations (yes, he wants to launch his own line) and just what exactly he was talking to Wintour about.

"Who is that guy sitting next to Anna Wintour?" This was perhaps the most overheard question at the Rag & bone show yesterday. He was tall, handsome, muscular, so clearly an athlete... right? I think? Still, the fashion crew was clueless.

Luckily my brother came to the rescue, informing me, after I sent him a photo text, that Wintour's newest seatmate was none other than NBA star Russell Westbrook, "arguably one of the best point guards in the entire league." Also he added, Westbrook "obviously" has "swag down pat." Well, no one gets to sit next to Wintour unless they truly have their "swag down pat." (For further proof of Westbrook's fearless "swag", just look at what this guy wears to press conferences or the latest Teen Choice Awards.)

The two looked mighty chummy before the show, chatting away; at one point Wintour showed Westbrook some photos on her phone, and when the show started, Wintour and Westbrook put their shades on in unison.

"Like I love the game of basketball, I love fashion," Westbrook told me after the show. "It's something that inspires me and something that hopefully in a couple of years I can move forward with."

So you want to do your own line, I ask? Yep. Another athlete is getting into the fashion fray. But judging from Westbrook's enthusiasm during the show and the way he had styled himself in Rag & Bone ("I tried to find a way to put it together"), he may just have something new to bring to the fashion space.

And since inquiring minds (mine) want to know, just what did he and Wintour chat it up about pre-show? "A few tennis things, a few fashion things, where I'm from, where she's from, just small talk, getting to know each other," he said. As for the coordinated donning of the sunnies, he just laughed. "Yeah, but we didn't talk about that."
