They should probably just go ahead and cancel fashion month right now because absolutely nothing I’m telling you NOTHING that could possibly happen within the next four weeks will be able to come close to topping this news: Tamagotchi is getting its own clothing line. And WWD is reporting it… so it’s REALLY HAPPENING.
Basically, an L.A.-based tee company called Mighty Fine has teamed up with Bandai to theoretically poke a toothpick into the tiny button hole on the back of the Tamagotchi brand–thus giving it new life! Tamagotchi had a skull hovering over it in the right hand corner of the screen and Mighty Fine gave it a shot! Tamagotchi’s happiness points were running low so Bandai gave it a snack! Tamagotchi’s steaming poop was piling up and Mighty Fine and Bandai cleaned it up, causing Tamagotchi to beep with joy. OMG this is just too exciting.
According to WWD, the new line for women and juniors will include activewear, tees, bodysuits, dresses, fleece, pants, shorts, skirts, and even home decor featuring “a contemporary take on the characters and design elements of the classic Tamagotchi brand.” No deets yet on launch date or price point. My hopes/predictions? Right in time for my birthday and PRICELESS.
Bandai’s free app ‘Tamagotchi L.I.F.E,’ launched last year, has received more than 2.5 million downloads. “When we saw the millions of kids who grew up with Tamagotchi and still love the brand today, and our success producing inventive women’s fashion, we recognized this as a great opportunity,” said Patty Timsawat, the chief operating officer of Mighty Fine.
As a lifelong Tamagotchi owner–my sweet little purple egg with pink accents was finally laid to rest some two years ago after even a fresh battery change at Radio Shack failed to revive her dim little screen–this is pretty much the best thing ever. Well, maybe next to someone someday confirming the urban legend that a long-enough-living Tam will eventually evolve into a tiny, pixelated Bill Clinton head. I’m still holding out for that one. Can anyone confirm/deny? Anybody?
