Vera Wang Spring 2014: For the Sheer Sport of It

Silky slips in all their iterations have been a massive trend this season. But at Vera Wang, they were just the foundation, to be built upon with layers and layers of sheer and mesh.

Silky slips in all their iterations have been a massive trend this season. But at Vera Wang, they were just the foundation, to be built upon with layers and layers of sheer and mesh.

Translucence was certainly a theme, with each look having at least three layers of sheer fabrics, many of them cut asymmetrically so that they swayed slightly as the models walked. Some of these looks were layered in such a way that they looked like long gowns--in fact, they were tops with trains layered over lounge-like palazzo pants. They were sexy, slinky, and modern; very Vera. When the designer really wanted to make a point, she did so with feathers and large paillettes-- either accenting straps and waistlines or covering the entire garment.

As for color palette, Wang made her way through the primary colors--blue, red, then yellow. Of course black and white were thrown into the mix, as well. The palette infused the collection with a vaguely sporty vibe--even the most ethereal gowns looks athletic (or at least sharp) when done in colorblocked cobalt and black.
