Stuart Weitzman has designed shoes for everyone from the Queen of England to Beyonce, but it’s his staple 50/50 boot that has truly become a legacy. The elastic-backed, knee-high style is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year (time flies, eh?), and Weitzman is feting in a major way: He’s designed 10 exclusive styles of the 50/50 boot for Gilt.
Olivia Palermo, Miranda Kerr, and Padma Lakshmi were just a few of the stylish VIPs who attended last night’s launch of the partnership. The pop-up shop with Gilt, which went live today, will feature 20 styles for 20 days, including those 10 exclusives–and one $10k pair covered in 25,000 Swarovski crystals.
But with so many boots on the market, how has the 50/50 become such a style powerhouse? “It’s comfortable, it’s timeless, it’s chic, it’s affordable–all things I look for when I’m buying shoes,” Kerr told us. “And they’re amazing for me when I’m running around after my son!”
“I think they’re for everyone,” Palermo added. “They elongate the leg and make a woman look sexy.”
Proving that the 50/50 boot fits in to just about any wardrobe, we asked Kerr and Palermo–each wearing the 50/50 in their own totally unique way–how they like to style their Stuart Weitzmans. “I like to wear a maxi dress and layer it with a cardigan and a big jacket, with tights and the boots,” Kerr said. “I just love layering in the winter.”
Palermo makes the 50/50 a winter staple as well. “You know how a girl has a uniform during the winter?” she asked with a smile. “They’re very chic. I actually like them with a velvet spandex pant and a crisp white shirt–it’s very polished.”
Prices range from $598 to $890; get your exclusive 50/50 styles here.
