A new Madewell collection is pretty much always a call for celebration at the Fashionista offices, but this is especially the case for Spring 2014, as it's the first collection under new head designer Somsack Sikhounmuong.
We first touched base with Sikhounmuong back in August, when he told us about his 12-year J.Crew background, and plans to "elevate" Madewell and "focus on making things a little more classic-based."
And now we finally get to see what the new, revamped version of Madewell looks like. It has the cool, casual vibe we've come to expect from the brand, with some ethnic prints thrown in, and fewer trend-driven pieces. Well, save for the flannel-shirts-as-belts and graphic tees with phrases on them (also seen at J.Crew). Sikhounmuong said for spring he "honed in on items that would build out and complement an existing wardrobe; pieces that our woman would really live in."
"I am most inspired by the women I see on the street or in our office who approach dressing organically, with almost a tomboy sense of ease," he continued. "Her pieces are curated, familiar, timeless and ultimately an authentic representation of who she is."
The clothes looked easy and wearable; but we're perhaps even more excited about the accessories--simple leather bags, chic sandals and classic pumps.
