It’s not uncommon to walk into a fast fashion retailer and find a carbon copy of an item from one of your favorite designers’ last collections, but far less often do we see this phenomenon just weeks after a piece debuts on the runway.
Last Friday evening, I was window shopping at the Urban Outfitters that’s located a very dangerous two blocks away from my apartment, and the first thing that caught my eye was a cozy top on the front table bearing the famous “Parental Advisory” logo. You may remember this ’90s throwback from the sweatshirts at Alexander Wang’s spring 2014 show, which are sure to be among the biggest “It” pieces of the season.
It looks like the Urban Outfitters version has actually been in the stockroom for a while–a customer reviewed it on the site way back in April–and we’re guessing that the re-promotion of the item is meant to capitalize on the impending popularity of Wang’s collection. If you were hoping for a wallet-friendly version of the runway piece, the Urban top will only set you back $44, while the Wang’s went up for sale on Moda Operandi for a cool $995.
A similar style has already popped up at Forever 21, so we won’t be surprised if this logo hits its oversaturation point well before Wang’s spring collection officially arrives in stores next year.
