Pinterest released its most popular fashion pins of 2013, and the images are about as pretty, feminine and conventional as you’d expect.
Soft tulle skirts and delicate dresses in spring-colored hues featured largely on the board, as did casual weekend wear, frequently a combination of jeans, sweater and scarf. A few edgier pieces also made the board, including a lace-sleeved sweater paired with tightly fitted army pants, as well as both tartan and leather jackets and shorts. Collectively, most of the images appeared to have been culled from magazine pages and style blogs.
You can see the full list of top pins in the women’s fashion category here. (Amazingly, I don’t recognize a single one.) Note that the board does not represent the absolute most popular fashion pins of 2013, but rather a selection of the most popular.
The list stands in stark contrast to Tumblr’s most popular fashion tags of 2013, with “hipster,” “grunge” and “indie” at the top of the list. That said, “pastel,” “girly” and “lace” did make the top 21 terms on Tumblr’s list, so perhaps there’s more in common with the two social networks than we initially suspected. Still, for retailers looking to make a sale, Pinterest remains the more valuable network.
