Lucky had a bit of a rocky start when it comes to its 2014 covers: The magazine faced some criticism for its January cover featuring Scandal star Kerry Washington, who appeared to be way over-Photoshopped in her Patrick Demarchelier portrait.

Lucky's second offering of the year stars another woman of color -- fresh-faced Zoe Saldana -- in a cute, casual striped sweater, and we're thinking this shot might fare better with critical readers when it hits newsstands on Jan. 1.

In her interview, Saldana -- who is a favorite of major fashion designers like Prabal Gurung and Calvin Klein's Francisco Costa -- opens up about her love of fashion. And while she is often a contender on the media's many best dressed lists, she's become accustomed to dealing with the public's reactions to what she chooses to wear on the red carpet, she says.

“I can give two shits about what somebody thought I looked like,” she told the magazine. “At the moment I conceived wearing an outfit, I had a thousand reasons. And now that it’s done, and I’m getting feedback that’s not positive, I’m going to regret it? I take responsibility for my actions, whether the outcome is positive or negative.”
