You don’t have to be told that the ’90s were a major inspiration for Elizabeth & James Pre-Fall 2014 — between the plaid shirt tied around the waist and the chunky, low-heeled loafers, the pieces speak for themselves.
It’s a collection that takes the grunge inspiration that ruled Fall 2013 runways and runs with it. The silhouette is loose and layered, with paper-thin leathers stacked between knits. The leopard accents woven in are a great accent to the oxblood color, and the sling backpack rendered in a woven wool is a key accessory that feels like an elevated version of something you picked up at a foreign market.
And there’s plaid, of course. Lots of plaid — but refreshingly, no tartan!
