The first time I bought makeup, it was a neutral eyeshadow duo and peachy cream blush from Dr. Hauschka. I got it at Whole Foods, and I went for that particular brand because I'd read in a magazine that Maggie Gyllenhaal was a fan. I use this anecdote as proof of my good taste in cosmetics and also to show that I was wise enough to aspire to be like Maggie Gyllenhaal at age 13.

Recently I found myself in the makeup aisle of Whole Foods, sniffing my way through a few dozen essential oils. And I happened upon the Dr. Hauschka section. And then I happened upon this body oil.

I've been using Aveeno's lavender moisturizer for a while, and although it works well, the smell is a little stale and weird. I know this, and yet I still use it. I don't know why. Maybe it's just because I hate wasting the supersize bottle of it I bought.

This, Dr. Hauschka's Moor Lavender Body Oil, is nothing like that. It smells alive. Like you're wading through a lavender field in France, maybe. Even when you're just standing down the aisle from the spirulina supplements in Whole Foods.

Moor Lavender Body Oil, $28.95, available at Beauty.com.
