We Love Nonoo's Colorful, Sheer-Sleeved Take on the Trench Dress

Every collection has its stand-out piece (or pieces) and for the Pre-Fall 2014 collection showcased by two-year-old label Nonoo, it was a pretty, color-infused take on the trench dress.

Every collection has its stand-out piece (or pieces) and for the Pre-Fall 2014 collection showcased by two-year-old label Nonoo -- whose offices, by the way, are just a few floors below ours -- it was a pretty, color-infused take on the trench dress.

Your typical trench dress is a pared-down version of the classic trench coat: made of khaki-colored cotton or silk; double-breasted, belted and sleeveless; with two rows of buttons running towards a knee-length hem.

Nonoo's version was done in silk georgette with an abstract blue and green print that mimics the appearance of dye on raw silk. What makes it most appealing are the sleeves and back vent, rendered in sheer silk organza -- a design choice that makes it look both elegant and unusual.
