H&M’s not the only fashion brand getting involved with the seemingly not-so-fashiony event that is Super Bowl Sunday.
The CFDA has embarked on another of its mega-collabs, as we’ve dubbed them, linking a whopping 48 of its designers with Bloomingdale’s and the NFL to design limited-edition football helmets. Yes, football helmets.
“This is the first time that the Super Bowl will be held in the New York region and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate by joining Bloomingdale’s and the NFL in merging fashion and sports with the creation of these unique helmets,” said Steven Kolb, CFDA CEO, in a statement.
And if you were just thinking that a DVF-designed football helmet was the one thing missing from your life, you’re in luck. Starting January 15, each one is up for auction at Bloomingdales.com, with 100% of proceeds benefiting the NFL Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of those “touched by the game of football.” The bidding for each piece starts at $248 (for the 48th Super Bowl) and ends on February 5.
Bloomingdale’s gave us a sneak peek at 15 of the designer creations, some of which are pretty…flamboyant? They’re certainly very different takes on what has generally, until now, been seen as a very masculine piece of athletic gear. But we guess that’s just what happens when you let Betsey Johnson get her hands on something.
