On Monday evening, Stella McCartney took over a cozy townhouse on the Upper East Side to debut her Pre-Fall 2014 collection, but as always with McCartney, it was more of a swinging party than your standard presentation. The designer invited editors and a few of her closest friends — we spotted Helena Christensen, Dree Hemingway, Liv Tyler and Julia Roitfeld mingling among the guests — for an evening that could fit right in to an episode of “Gossip Girl” (RIP).
On the first floor of the Harold Pratt House, under a giant chandelier and in front of a giant candy sculpture that spelled out “STELLA,” models posed in intarsia sweaters and embroidered dresses featuring the drawings of British artist Gary Hume and silk dresses patterned with oversized polka dots. The real focal points, however, were the cakes shaped like shoeboxes and Falabella bags that sat on the center table surrounded by flowers, right in between a chocolate fountain (with a side of marshmallows for dipping, of course) and a candy bar.
Upstairs in the ballroom, models played hopscotch and Scrabble in front of the fireplace, wearing toasty-looking houndstooth blazers and oversized blanket coats. Over in the library a jazz band played, elevating the atmosphere to a new height of luxury. Other standout collection items spotted included a suit made from sweatshirt material and body-con dresses adorned with fringe. If you needed any more proof that flats are the shoe of the season, McCartney showed masculine slip-ons and lace-up derby shoes throughout.
While we unfortunately couldn’t take one of the incredible houndstooth pieces with us as we left for the evening, we obviously stopped by the candy bar for a souvenir on the way out.
