Founder Patricia (Patti) Pao, a Harvard Business School graduate, has 25 years of luxury and beauty industry experience, during which she has launched hundreds of products for companies including Avon, Guerlain, Elizabeth Arden and Peter Thomas Roth.
Reports to: Chief Marketing Officer
The position will be responsible for internal and external communications including PR strategy, media relations, trade marketing, investor relations and agency management. This individual will play a key role in a fast growing, entrepreneurial environment that requires action and a desire to shake up an established industry dominated by corporate giants.
Duties and Responsibilities (What does success look like?): • Strategy: develop and implement comprehensive stakeholder communications and media relations program that is linked to the brand’s and company’s objectives. • There’s no “I” in team, but a “we” in awesome: work with cross-functional team to develop and execute breakthrough programs and ideas. • GID (Get It Done): responsible for ideating and implementing initiatives across: communications plans, press releases, strategic partnership activities and investor relations. Manage implementation of brand communications plan and ensure execution excellence. • Know somebody: utilize strong relationship skills to cultivate and manage media, industry decision-makers, and trade relationships on behalf of the Company to activate speaking engagements, identify thought leadership opportunities, and ensure brand role and message comes through clearly to targeted stakeholders. • Tweeter and a Fanner: execute communication strategy across multiple social media platforms (Facebook, Google+, Twitter, Instagram, Vimeo, Blogs, etc.). • Ear to the ground: keep abreast of consumer and industry insights to develop and execute opportunistic execution and communications programming to help tell the brand story. • Help develop marketing strategy: ability to internalize and utilize brand strategy to shape supportive communications. • Land the planes: provide a complete communications calendar to ensure team has proper time to develop and execute communications plans with excellence. • That rug really tied the room together: develop innovative and integrated marketing communications across a variety of stakeholder touch points. Champion the brand positioning and brand voice, to make sure our brand experience is all coming from the same place. • Agency Whisperer: Experience managing external PR agencies. • Fire up the troops; develop and manage comprehensive internal communications plan to drive key company initiatives.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • Integrated Marketing Communications: drive consistent brand story across all touch points. • Social Media Skills: ability to navigate and communicate across brand and external social media channels (including blogging & social networking). • Measurement & Analysis: Experience using various communications measurement approaches to measure impact and identify areas of opportunity/improvement. • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. • Proven ability to say more with less by delivering examples of clear and consistent messages across all touch points (corporate press releases, media relations and partner events). • Results highlighting social media savviness to drive earned media impressions and word-of-mouth influence. • Strong strategic thinking, creative thinking, collaboration, and problem solving skills. Oh, and a great attitude is a must as well. • Results focused, with examples to prove it. • Strong bias for action. • Organized and high attention to detail. • Ability to adjust on the fly and thrive in an ever-changing environment. • Entrepreneurial spirit and a willingness to be the brand. • Track record of influencing multiple stakeholders (internal & external). • Ability to juggle and execute multiple projects.
Qualifications and Requirements: • 10+ years of communications experience (agency and/or in-house) • College degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism (or related field of study). Advanced degree a bonus. • Previous experience in a fast growing, entrepreneurial environment. • 3+ years’ experience using social media platforms to drive company brand and communications. • Beauty, skincare, cosmetics experience a must. • Strong ability to generate ideas and meeting tight deadlines • Strong ability to anticipate put the pieces together and flawlessly execute.
