Two whole years ago, there were whisperings that J.Crew was looking to open a store in Brooklyn's most hipster neighborhood, Williamsburg. And people ran with it. As did we.

The rumors eventually subsided, with Urban Outfitters beating J.Crew to the corporate retail punch. But those Williamsburg residents who appreciate a good preppy basic or Celine-inspired trouser can rest easy: The retailer told WWD Thursday that it will indeed be setting up shop there. (A spokesperson did not immediately respond to our request for confirmation.)

But that's not all: Madewell's coming to Williamsburg, too.

And if you happen to live in "grown-up Brooklyn," as Hannah Horvath once referred to it, J.Crew also plans to open a Park Slope location. Given the abundance of children populating that neighborhood, we'd be willing to bet that the location will also include a CrewCuts.

It's a full-on Mickey Drexler Brooklyn takeover, for which we apparently have Jen Mankins, owner of Brooklyn-based boutique chain Bird (the type of independent business Brooklyn has become known for, and that could be affected by corporate retail encroaching on its turf), to thank: She was the first retailer to which Madewell sold wholesale, and tells WWD that she familiarized Mickey Drexler to Brooklyn via regular meetings there.
