Hopefully, you wore something strapless while working on your tan at Coachella last weekend, because tan lines are not going to work with this season's (very fresh and appealing) dress and blouse trend.

Following a renaissance on the runway, off-the-shoulder items are starting to make their way into stores and I, personally, am obsessed. I initially became infatuated with this dress from Zara, which I bought without trying on (though later had to return because it was a little big in the chest/upper arm area for me).

I found more success with this number from Motel (yes, the high street is very up on this trend). It's a lighter, stretchier fabric and it has a bit of elastic in the shoulders, which helps the sleeves stay in place.

The fact that it was so easy for me to find such similar dresses made me wonder: Where did this trend start? The answer, as usual, is the runway.

Carven's Guillaume Henry helped usher in the trend with a couple of darling off-the-shoulder dresses in his resort 2014 collection. Alexander Wang did some truly swoon-worthy off-the-shoulder frocks for his spring 2014 outing for Balenciaga. Olivier Rousteing also incorporated an off-the-shoulder top into his '80s-tinged collection that season. Rosie Assoulin, Rachel Comey and Naeem Khan followed suit. Honor's Giovanna Randall played with the silhouette for this fall.

Suffice it to say, this trend has legs (shoulders?). And it feels like a fresh update to one's spring/summer wardrobe. Plus, no tan lines! Click through the gallery for our favorite options, available now.
