Now that my hair is long enough to pull into a ponytail that doesn't look like a pineapple stem(!), I'm revisiting my collection of earrings -- and not finding much to wear, for daytime at least. I do not own any simple studs; in fact, the "quietest" earrings in my collection are silver dollar-sized, bright blue confections Schiparelli produced in the '40s. Most of what I own are considered statement earrings, which are wonderful for a night out, but not so great for day.

And so I've begun compiling a shopping list of quieter and more delicate pieces suitable for work hours, mostly "interesting," quarter-sized studs and short drop earrings like this pair from Dannijo and this jet pair from Shay Accessories (neither of which I yet own, but really want). But perhaps the best pair I've stumbled across so far is this simple set of gold drop earrings from Rachel Zoe, which feature two fingernail-sized pieces of cut crystal hanging from double chains. Worn with a white shirt and a teased crown, they'd lend an extra polish and elegance to a daytime look that transitions easily to evening.

Rachel Zoe Cut Crystal Drop Earrings, $95, available at Shopbop and Revolve.
