We are typically big fans of what Kate Mara wears: She (with help from stylist/pal Johnny Wujek) knows exactly how to dress for her petite frame and isn't afraid to take risks every now and then.

Monday night's risk -- an asymmetrical white J. Mendel dress with a complicated bodice, which she wore to the Emmy Awards -- was fine, but did not pay off as well as some others she's taken.

To be honest, we were a little disappointed until we saw the perfect look she changed into for an HBO after party. She kept the sky-high Charlotte Olympia shoes and switched into a super cool LBD with long sleeves and an sort of a faux wrap dress silhouette. It's insanely flattering, a little sexy and she looks totally comfortable in it. The hair tucked behind one ear was also a nice touch. Bonus: Were she not a famous lady with all kinds of access to free clothes, she could probably wear this dress again (perhaps to a less high-profile event) and style it differently without anyone noticing; such is the magic of LBDs. Some times playing it safe pays off, too.
