It was party time at Lanvin on Thursday night The champagne flowed as Alber Elbaz-illustrated boxes of popcorn were passed around, all in celebration of the house’s momentous 125th anniversary. (Ciara, Catherine Deneuve, Kim Kardashian, and Kanye -- in quite the revealing blouse, we might add -- occupied the front row.) Next week, Elbaz will celebrate Lanvin: I Love You, a study of his work at the brand, which he’s been designing for since 2001. But until then, it’s all about spring 2015.

Eighties fashion icon Violetta Sanchez opened the show in a one-shouldered number with Amber Valletta following in a tank dress that laced up the side. The big idea was to honor Jeanne Lanvin’s repertoire. Her famous Lanvin blue was finest on a long-sleeved lace dress, while gold brocades reflected her penchant for lamé. There were even a few gowns that nodded to her robe de style, a dress that is cut straight on top with a fuller skirt. (There were plenty of flowing chemise gowns, too.) Strong accessories — something of an Elbaz signature, actually — kept the look moving forward. The thick tonal belts, gold breastplate necklaces, softly structured handbags and ankle-strap pumps gave everything a powerful patina. All in all, it was a collection that successfully celebrated both of their accomplishments.
