Rodarte's seasonal collections always allow us to indulge in our wildest (and often nerdiest) fashion fantasies. From the "Star Wars," "Wizard of Oz" and "Game of Thrones" inspirations of seasons past, to the spectacular pirate and mermaid motifs of spring 2015, we always leave the show feeling like we witnessed something straight out of a dream. But this type of craftsmanship and creativity doesn't come cheap — in fact, one of the dresses from the Mulleavy sisters' latest runway will cost you as much as a car.
The Rodarte spring collection is now up for pre-sale on Moda Operandi, and while pieces by the design duo are never what we'd call "affordable," we were a bit surprised to see the soaring price points of the Mulleavy's latest fantastical range. (Remember, this is ready-to-wear, not couture.) The "mermaid" gowns — layered with crocheted net, Swarovski crystals, lace, pearls and sequins — start at $21,850, and the fringed and feathered varieties go up to $25,300. The shorter iterations range from around $6,000 to $14,000, and the utility jackets — the most wearable items from the spring collection — start at $3,450.
Yes, the Rodarte spring collection might be what our dreams are made of, but thanks to its price range, it's likely going to have to stay that way.
