If you asked us to describe the usual aesthetic of country star on the rise/"Pretty Little Liars" cast member Lucy Hale in just a few words, "goth" would certainly not be one of them. The 25-year-old beauty has an easygoing, California girl-next-door thing about her — although her "PLL" character Aria went through somewhat of a rocker phase in the show's early story lines — which is why we were pleasantly surprised by her dark beauty look at the American Music Awards on Monday night.

Showing off a fresh bob haircut (it's the work of Kristin Ess, who also chopped off Lauren Conrad's signature waves a couple of weeks ago) and wine-colored lips, the beauty far overshadowed her simple black Vera Wang dress. A strong, filled-in brow, thick black lashes and some precise liner —smudged just a bit at the corners for a smokey effect — were all that she needed to complete her transformation. This witchy look is part of the preferred fall #aesthetic here at Fashionista, so while I'm not ready to go full goth this season, I'm definitely going to try for "goth adjacent."
