Can a makeup look be both wearable and intimidating?

Brave souls, we've got some spring makeup inspiration for you this morning. Alexander McQueen dropped its new campaign over the weekend, and the beauty look model Karolin Wolter wears is beautiful, weird and kind of transfixing.

Now, dramatic pencilled-on eyebrows are nothing new to fashion designers. Thin, unnatural brows a la Greta GarboJean Harlow and Clara Bow made repeat appearances at Dior in the '00s. And at Prada's spring show in September, Pat McGrath traced arches on top of the models' natural brows. We could throw out examples all day long.

The wonderful thing about this look, though, is the way it plays graphic against natural. Wolter's glowing skin, wet hair and barely-there eyeshadow, combined with a saturated red lip, achieve some approximation of "effortlessness." ("Throw on a red lip and go!") But then those hyper-intentional brows! She is trying here.
