New York Fashion Week is sneaking up on us. In less than two weeks, the fashion crowd will be flocking to the shows in well-dressed hordes. The spring shows always provide a particular challenge, however: How can one look good and put together, while also remaining as snug as a bug in crazy unpredictable winter weather?

The suggestions we've compiled below on how to achieve that balance are not made with street style photographer shutter bait in mind. Fashion Week is certainly an occasion to dress one's best, but we aren't proposing gold lamé parkas here. It's about touches of bold patterns, unconventional yet weather-appropriate shoes and, most importantly, layers on layers on layers.

Read on for our favorite looks based around striped pants, smart skirts and one flowery dress. Stay warm out there!
