We are exactly one month out from the start of New York Fashion Week, and while designers are busy creating the fall 2015 collections that will walk the runways in February, their pre-fall offerings are still rolling out one by one. Although it's a less publicized season, pre-fall tends to spend more time on the store racks than the big fall and spring collections do, so it's somewhere we often look for classic wardrobe staples or that one killer investment piece that we know we'll get plenty of mileage out of. In addition, pre-fall can also give us a few hints as to what the designers are thinking for fall — a little something to look forward to, if you will.

We've combed through the collections and pulled out the trends we saw pop up over and over again. Read on for your primer below, and keep an eye out for continuations of these motifs throughout the fall 2015 shows.

White Out

Pre-fall lands in stores during the summer, so naturally there are a fair number of white pieces. Wearing the shade into fall, however, looks fresh and crisp, especially when done in a well-tailored suit.

Roomy Culottes

As you've likely heard, skinny jeans (and their non-denim counterparts) are slowly becoming a thing of the past. For pre-fall, wide-legged pants appeared in a staggering number of collections, and the cropped version is particularly popular.

Oversized Plush Coats

These teddy bear-like coats were huge for fall, but we're happy to report they're going to be back in a big way next year. Who doesn't want to wrap herself in what's basically a giant, fuzzy blanket? That's what we thought.

Gone Surfing

Retro California-inspired pieces popped up everywhere from The Row to Band of Outsiders, making us want to grab a Baja poncho and head to the beach immediately. (Yes, we know it's 19 degrees outside.)

Fringe Benefits

Fringe is one of the easiest ways to add fun texture to your look — either in your clothing or your accessories — and designers incorporated the stuff in a number of interesting ways this season.

Pretty in Pleats

Did you fall in love with the pleated skirts at Proenza Schouler last spring? Us, too! If you weren't able to scoop one up, there will be plenty of similar options for you to choose from come pre-fall — and at a wide range of price points.

Hip to be Square

Designers opted out of basic plaids for pre-fall in favor of window check or square-printed pieces that give even the simplest look a cool, graphic effect.

The Little Leather Dress

Many shoppers' closets are already packed with leather jackets, leggings and skirts -- and now designers are hoping they'll want to pick up a tailored leather dress to add to their wardrobes.

Sporty Stripes

With fitness and athletic wear at peak trendiness, sporty details are once again prominent this season.

Tied at the Waist

One of the biggest -- and coziest -- spring 2015 trends has made its way to the pre-fall collections, and we couldn't be happier.

Bonus Trend: Slim Suiting

While not a trend per se, well-tailored pantsuits have been popular on the red carpet as of late, and designers offered many sleek options -- some more relaxed than others -- for pre-fall, ideal for when you need to look polished at a moment's notice.
