Twice a year -- once in New York, and once in LA -- we host our "How to Make It in Fashion" conference, which brings together some of the industry's most successful designers, editors, stylists, buyers, CEOs, publicists and costume designers to talk frankly about their careers and to answer attendees' questions about the industry. We love the one-on-one time with panelists, but what makes us really leave those conferences feeling great is the interaction we get with our readers: Learning what they like about Fashionista and what we could do better, which stories they had a personal connection to, the jobs they landed through our careers board, their approach to style and their ambitions within the fashion industry.

That's why we've decided to launch a meetup series in New York. Each month, we'll be inviting one prominent member of the fashion community to come speak to us in an intimate setting about his or her career, to share advice for advancing in the industry and to answer attendees' questions. After a 3o to 45-minute Q&A, attendees are invited to network with our editors and fellow eventgoers. Food and (for those over 21) drinks will be served.

We're happy to announce that our very first speaker is Joe Zee, the editor in chief of Yahoo Style. Zee is one of the most recognizable figures in the fashion industry, thanks to the high-profile positions he's held not only at Yahoo Style, but also at Elle and W magazines, where he once served as creative director and fashion director, respectively. You might also recognize Zee from his work as an Old Navy brand ambassador. But what really inspires us about Zee is not just his career success, but how hard he worked to get where he is. He is also one of those (all too rare) souls that is truly kind and welcoming to everyone in the industry — whatever his or her title may be.

You can come hear Zee speak at Space 530 in Manhattan on Thursday, March 19 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 (to cover the cost of catering), and can be purchased here. There are only 50 seats available, so do act fast! Hope to see you there.
