Sunday night's Oscars proceedings got a little slow, so in between waiting for Gaga's amazingly good Sound of Music tribute and hoping for shots of Wes Anderson (<3), I started taking a good, hard look at all the hair trends. We've already covered the semi-weird yet fantastic athleisure red carpet hair trend, but there were a lot of other things to talk about.

Updos Are Back

Yes, yes, I know that updos haven't really gone anywhere. HOWEVER, they were much more prevalent at the Oscars than they've been during this awards season, and they popped up on actresses of all ages. (But sadly not on Jared Leto.) Here, Anna Kendrick, Zoe Saldana and Julianne Moore show us intricate, messy, and sleek 'n' low.

Don't Believe the Updo Hype? Here Are More

This slide highlights the fact that you can do an updo regardless of your hair length (see: Sienna Miller and Rosamund Pike, center). It also proves that you can make blunt bangs look formal (Felicity Jones, left) and that Cate Blanchett looks good no matter what you do to her.

The Chanteuse Short Cut

I'm going to go ahead and credit Julie Andrews with these singing ladies' short cuts, though her presence at the Oscars last night probably had nothing to do with it. Here, Jennifer Hudson, Rita Ora and Faith Hill all took it short and sleek. (Also notable: According to Google, Hill's hairstyle was the most-searched red carpet hairstyle last night. Huh.)

Looks That Defy Categorization

For these three, it was less about the hair -- though that was a major contributing factor -- and more about the magical quality of the total look. Margot Robbie was perfection personified from the straight bob to that orangey red lip, which is Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Raven. Emma Stone's half-up faux bob is a work of art, and Zendaya's glorious head of long dreads stole the red carpet, in my opinion.

The Fashion Middle Part

Kudos to Eliza for picking up on this one. Leave it to the fashion people -- hi, Behati Prinsloo and Georgina Chapman -- to make a severe, slick middle part updo look amazing.

This proves that everyone wants Jennifer Aniston's slightly boring yet admittedly attractive hair, including Chloe Grace Moretz and Kerry Washington.

Fancy Lady Hair

Only the fanciest of red carpet dwellers can pull off hair this long and luxurious and perfect, particularly in light of Sunday's drizzly weather. Jessica Chastain, Reese Witherspoon, and Gwyneth Paltrow -- arguably the fanciest of them all -- nailed it.

Never thought I'd be comparing Scarlett Johansson and Kelly Osbourne, but it just happened. Who wore it better? Who's going to swear the most while growing this cut out? My money is on ScarJo.

Pregnant Goddess

Keira Knightley deserves her own category for this. I don't know if it's the pregnancy hormones, the prenatal vitamins, or her natural hair magic, but this look makes me want to get pregnant so I can attempt to channel it.
