With London Fashion Week kicking off Friday, there are now two shows fewer to get excited about: London-based Whistles and Ostwald Helgason have both removed themselves from this season's presentation schedule after previously signing on to show.
According to a rep for Whistles, which first showed on the official London Fashion Week calendar for fall 2014, the brand decided to cancel its show "due to a family bereavement" and will be releasing images of its fall 2015 collection instead. Susanne Ostwald and Ingvar Helgason, meanwhile, have withdrawn "in order to focus efforts on the development of the brand and it's [sic] core collection."
"Susanne and Ingvar were elated to be given the opportunity by the British Fashion Council to participate in London Fashion Week, and appreciate the support of those who have congratulated the designers on their decision to relocate to London this year," a rep for the brand wrote in an e-mail to Fashionista. "Although Ostwald Helgason will not be presented to the public this season, the designers look forward to presenting their future collections in the forthcoming seasons."
The seven-year-old Ostwald Helgason showed at New York Fashion Week for the first time last February, and had planned to return to London for the fall 2015 shows.
They're not the only brands to skip out on formally presenting their work this season; Peter Som, who has cancelled a number of shows in the past, didn't show during New York Fashion Week, either. A rep for the brand said Som "is taking a pause to focus on new business initiatives which will be announced later." With any luck, they'll be back at it next time around.
